The time/day difference, opposite seasons, and general "being upside down" thing leads to some cute and funny questions from friends about life in Australia. I thought I'd share my favorite question, thus far, which arrived on my Facebook wall, and was posted by my former intern/self-proclaimed "Coolest Person in the World." We used to have a running joke about "warning" each other about the impending changes in the calendar to stave off calendar shock - that thing you do when you say, "how did it get to be June, already?? Wasn't it just May??" (i.e. - Early warning: "It is the end of August. It will soon be September 1st." or "Middle of January. It is no longer the 'beginning' of January."). It was a good system.
She will heretofore be known as "Rock Star Intern," and I have protected her identity with "confetti" over her picture, as is befitting a rock star/coolest person in the world:

(To clarify, it is October in Australia. Middle of October).
Jesus, Christine...
ReplyDeleteEhem, Robert ... her name is Rock Star Intern.
ReplyDeleteOne of my FB friends asked me if we call our summers "winter" because they take place in Nov-Feb time-frame :-)
ReplyDelete@Jenny - that's actually really cute. Reminds me of when I first got here and I kept writing emails to people that said, "I hope you've had a nice summer!" Erm ... winter, I mean ...
