Calendar Shock

The time/day difference, opposite seasons, and general "being upside down" thing leads to some cute and funny questions from friends about life in Australia. I thought I'd share my favorite question, thus far, which arrived on my Facebook wall, and was posted by my former intern/self-proclaimed "Coolest Person in the World." We used to have a running joke about "warning" each other about the impending changes in the calendar to stave off calendar shock - that thing you do when you say, "how did it get to be June, already?? Wasn't it just May??" (i.e. - Early warning: "It is the end of August. It will soon be September 1st." or "Middle of January. It is no longer the 'beginning' of January."). It was a good system.

She will heretofore be known as "Rock Star Intern," and I have protected her identity with "confetti" over her picture, as is befitting a rock star/coolest person in the world:

(To clarify, it is October in Australia. Middle of October).

  2. One of my FB friends asked me if we call our summers "winter" because they take place in Nov-Feb time-frame :-)

  3. @Jenny - that's actually really cute. Reminds me of when I first got here and I kept writing emails to people that said, "I hope you've had a nice summer!" Erm ... winter, I mean ...
