Australia Has a New Prime Minister

Sorry for two posts in one day, but I have to take a quick break from Little Things because a Big Thing has happened in Australia: In a sudden ouster of Kevin Rudd, Australia today has its first female Prime Minister - Julia Gillard, who was previously Rudd's Deputy PM.

When we went to Canberra, we toured an exhibit of the history of Australian Prime Ministers and I sarcastically noted that the only definite qualification to hold the job seemed to be that you had to be a white male. And on that note, I cannot help but mention this paragraph from the Associated Press's report on the new Prime Minister:

A former successful lawyer, she has been attacked by some opponents as unsuitable to lead because she is childless and therefore out of touch with most Australians.

Really. I don't go looking for this stuff. It just appears.

Prime Minister, I know little to nothing about you, but I do wish you the best of luck.
