I’m what you might call a serial voter. I vote in the Presidential election, sure; but I also vote in pretty much any election I can get my registered-since-my-18th-birthday little hands on. I used to take a giddy pride in showing up to work with a cute little “I Voted Sticker” on, and have people say, “I didn’t even know there was an election today!” Local initiatives? I’ve researched ‘em and have voted accordingly. Running for dog-catcher? I know your platforms and who has endorsed you!
So, while I may feel a little shy in my willingness to have political discussions of late (as I mentioned in my last post); you'd better believe that doesn't mean that I don't have some strong opinions, and I'm still going to exercise my right to vote.
On that theme, this post is really for my American expat readers. The time is running short for you to request an absentee ballot for the upcoming mid-term election. If you haven't done it already, I suggest going to www.votefromabroad.org. They have a step-by-step form that you fill out online and print (or e-mail, if you don't have a printer). You just vote in the last place you were registered to vote, or you can even register, if you've never voted before.
It could not possibly be easier. ... Do it!
