Big Brekkie

The Big Brekkie is classic Aussie fare - a collection you will find and almost any breakfast cafe. It usually entails eggs, bacon (closer to Canadian bacon that crispy American bacon), sausage, toast, hash browns, mushrooms, baked beans, and roasted tomato. It's a strange concoction to start the day with, from the American perspective.

I had to take a picture of the beautiful Big Vegetarian Brekkie I ordered this morning. It was such an appealing presentation. The meat was replaced with spinach, but otherwise rather like the usual offering. I reflected that what I had before me was a perfect breakfast for fit-conscious Sydney - completely Australian with a healthy twist.

I confess that I gave Partner-in-Crime my tomato and half of my mushrooms. I'm still learning to love the big brekkie. But perhaps, two years on, I'm adapting ever-more to all the subtleties of Aussie culture, one meal at a time.
